Loyiso Masuku has been elected chairperson of the ANC’s Greater Johannesburg Region, emerging victorious over Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero during the party’s regional conference in Sandton this week.
Masuku secured 184 votes to Morero’s 149, a result that positions her as a potential contender for the city’s mayorship and possibly the first woman to lead Johannesburg under the ANC.
Several other key positions were also filled. Masilo Serekele was elected deputy chairperson with 188 votes, defeating Eunice Mgcina, who received 143.
Sasabona Manganye clinched the role of regional secretary with 205 votes, ahead of Lebogang Shabalala’s 128.
