Another senior taxi industry figure has been assassinated in Gauteng, intensifying concerns over spiralling tensions within the sector.
Alexandra Taxi Association (ATA) chairperson Vusi Mayaba was fatally shot on Thursday night in the parking area of a Woodmead shopping centre. According to police, Mayaba and another man were approached by two attackers armed with automatic rifles before gunfire erupted.
The killing comes just three days after two ATA officials were murdered in Midrand, raising alarm over a possible flare-up of hostilities between rival groups in Alexandra.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
Police have opened a murder case and urged anyone with information to contact authorities as the investigation continues.
