A shooting in Mitchells Plain on Tuesday night has left three people dead, among them a nine-year-old boy, prompting an intensive police manhunt for the attackers.
Two men, aged 51 and 36, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital for urgent medical care.
According to preliminary police reports, four armed suspects opened fire on a property before forcing their way into the house and shooting the victims inside. Detectives from the Anti-Gang Unit have taken over the investigation and are pursuing several promising leads.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile condemned the attack, calling it a brutal reminder of the ongoing scourge of gang violence in the province.
“This cowardly and senseless act will not go unanswered,” he said. “We will tighten the net around these criminal elements and ensure every individual involved is brought before the law.”
Patekile also warned gang members that law enforcement is intensifying its crackdown.
“Your days of terror are numbered. We are coming, and you will face the full might of the law,” he said.
