A man sought in connection with multiple violent crimes was shot dead during a confrontation with police in Klaarwater on Thursday.
According to authorities, members of the Provincial Tracing Team tracked the suspect to a rented property, where they moved in to execute a warrant of arrest. The man, who had been out on bail for extortion and armed robbery but failed to return to court, was also wanted for the recent murders of three men in Umlazi F.
Police say he opened fire as officers approached, prompting a shootout in which he was fatally wounded. No officers were injured.
The suspect had reportedly been a source of fear for residents in Umlazi and surrounding communities.v
