A family of six was targeted in an armed robbery in Area 2, Mhlasini, on Wednesday afternoon, with suspects forcing one of the victims to transfer cash electronically.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), officers responded to a call at approximately 23:18 after the suspects had fled the property. Upon arrival, they interviewed the family, who said four men two armed with handguns entered their home, held them at gunpoint, and demanded valuables.
Items stolen included:
- 2 laptops (HP and Proline)
- 1 Huawei Nova SE 12 cellphone
- 1 iTel flat-screen TV
- R150 in cash
In addition, the female victim was coerced into transferring R6,000 electronically and purchasing a Hollywood voucher worth R2,000.
Two of the suspects then took the keys to the family’s Toyota Quest and drove to a nearby service station to confirm the cash deposit, while the other two remained inside the home guarding the family. The vehicle was later returned, and the group fled in a silver-grey VW Polo Vivo. The registration number remains unknown.
No injuries were reported during the incident. Authorities continue to investigate.
