Durban police say they have made a significant breakthrough in disrupting a drug supply network operating in the city. The Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit arrested a suspect during a raid on Fischer Street in Point on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Paul Magwaza said the suspect was under investigation for supplying drugs to multiple street-level dealers across Durban.
“The operation led to the recovery of 5,830 capsules of heroin powder, 4,543 pieces of raw cocaine, and 178 ecstasy tablets, with an estimated street value of R570,000. Cash of R157,270 was also seized at the premises,” Magwaza said.
The suspect appeared in Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, facing charges of drug dealing.
In a separate operation, a 38-year-old man was released on bail in Newcastle on Wednesday after being arrested earlier this week for alleged drug dealing. He was already out on bail for two previous drug-related offences.
Police said officers raided a property on Sterling Street in Newcastle, recovering narcotics including rock cocaine, crystal meth, and mandrax, with an estimated value of R200,000. Cash of R17,800 was also confiscated.
Authorities said both operations reflect ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks across KwaZulu-Natal.
