Durban Police Recover Firearms and Signal Jammers in Anti-Hijacking Operation

Durban Metro Police and SAPS Provincial Crime Intelligence conducted coordinated early-morning operations on Thursday targeting suspects linked to recent hijackings and illegal firearms across Umlazi, Folweni, KwaMakhutha, Umbumbulu, and northern eThekwini.

In Umlazi’s Emhlabeni Informal Settlement, officers acting on verified intelligence raided a property around 01:00. During the search, multiple signal-jamming devices were found charging inside the home, along with firearms and ammunition believed to be used in hijacking incidents.

Items seized include:

  • 9mm pistols
  • Homemade revolver
  • Magazines and live ammunition
  • Signal-jamming devices
  • Personal identification linked to the suspect

One of the recovered firearms has been positively linked to a previous hijacking case.

The operation involved SAPS Provincial Crime Intelligence, Durban Metro Police’s Tracing Unit, and Tracing & Investigations Teams. Authorities confirmed that joint efforts will continue to target hijackings and the illegal possession of firearms across eThekwini.
