A 13-year-old boy with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) was assaulted and stabbed with a broken beer bottle in Waterloo, north of Durban, on Thursday morning.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to a distress call around 07:36 and found the injured teen at his home on Masingane Road. He had sustained blunt force trauma to his head and a severe laceration to his left hand.
According to reports, the boy—who attends a special needs school—was waiting at a local bus stop when he was approached by a 15-year-old male, known to him but enrolled at a different school. The assailant allegedly struck him on the head with a beer bottle, which shattered. He then used the jagged glass to stab the victim before fleeing the scene.
The young victim managed to return home and alert his family, who contacted emergency services. Paramedics stabilised him on scene before transporting him to hospital for further care.
Reaction officers were informed that the two boys have a history of animosity, and Thursday’s attack is believed to be linked to previous altercations.
Authorities are investigating the incident. No arrests have been confirmed at this stage.
