The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in KwaZulu-Natal have confirmed that the majority of their members injured in a tragic bus crash on Monday night have been discharged from hospital.

The accident occurred on the R34 between Ulundi and Vryheid, as supporters were returning from the party’s Youth Day rally held in Durban. It is alleged that an oncoming truck struck the bus on its side, tearing it open on impact.

Ten people lost their lives in the crash.

EFF KZN Provincial Secretary Vukani Ndlovu provided an update, saying that only four individuals – including the bus driver – remain in hospital, but are expected to be discharged soon.

“I believe there are only three supporters and the driver still under medical care. However, they are in good spirits and are likely to be discharged tomorrow,” said Ndlovu. “There are just a few final check-ups pending, but nothing major or concerning has been reported. We visited them, spoke to them, and they appear to be doing well.”

The party has extended its condolences to the families of those who died and has committed to supporting all affected by the tragedy.
