Family, friends, and classmates will gather in Verulam today to bid farewell to 15-year-old Saish Manilall, who tragically passed away after reportedly suffering an allergic reaction to sardines.
It is understood that the Grade 10 learner consumed sardines for the first time on Saturday, which triggered the fatal reaction. His family rushed him to hospital after he began struggling to breathe. Despite being placed on a ventilator, Saish sadly died shortly thereafter.
Trenance Park Secondary School, where Saish was a pupil, expressed deep sorrow at the loss.
“Saish was a bright and cheerful learner with a promising future. Our school community is heartbroken,” the school said in a statement. “We have arranged for both staff and students to attend his funeral. We urge the public to refrain from spreading misinformation during this difficult time. The family needs compassion and support as they grieve. May Saish’s soul rest in peace.”
Counselling services have also been made available at the school to help learners and staff cope with the loss.
