Police are investigating a murder case after an elderly woman, believed to be in her 80s, was killed and her 60-year-old daughter critically injured during a violent home invasion in Hexham, Phoenix, on Monday night.
Authorities were alerted by neighbors who heard a man's cries for help. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram reported that officers arrived to find a large crowd gathered outside the residence. Upon entering, they discovered the daughter lying in a passage with a large knife nearby. She was stabilized at the scene and rushed to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The elderly mother was found near a bedroom door and declared deceased by paramedics. She had sustained extensive stab wounds. It's understood that a man, believed to be the daughter's husband, forced entry into the home after receiving no response from inside, discovering the horrific scene.
Police have launched a full investigation into the incident.
