Eastern Cape Acting Police Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, has strongly condemned the brutal murder of two elderly sisters who were gunned down in their home in Upper Ncerha, near Alice.

The women, aged 75 and 85, were fatally shot while sleeping. According to police, unknown suspects forcibly entered their residence during the night and opened fire, leaving both victims with fatal gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.

Police spokesperson Captain Siphokazi Mawisa confirmed that a preliminary investigation has so far yielded no leads. However, Kupiso has instructed the investigating team to leave no stone unturned in the hunt for those responsible.

“She has given clear orders to the team to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and face the full might of the law,” said Mawisa.

Kupiso also reiterated the SAPS's commitment to tackling violence against society’s most vulnerable.

“Violence against women, children, and the elderly is unacceptable. The SAPS remains resolute in its fight against the scourge of Gender-Based Violence,” Mawisa added.

A case of double murder is being investigated, and police have appealed to the public for any information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects.
