Eskom has suspended Stage 2 load shedding as of midnight, citing improved generation capacity and a decrease in electricity demand.
The power utility had implemented rolling blackouts at short notice on Thursday, but says the suspension follows the recovery of over 2,000 megawatts in generation capacity. Eskom also confirmed that emergency reserves have been adequately replenished.
In a statement, the utility said planned maintenance operations are currently underway in preparation for the anticipated increase in electricity usage during the winter months.
While the suspension of load shedding comes as a relief, Eskom has urged the public to continue using electricity sparingly to avoid placing additional strain on the grid.
