KwaZulu-Natal police have captured four of the most wanted gang members believed to be behind a wave of violence that has rocked the Amaoti community in Inanda. The suspects, aged between 21 and 33, were arrested in Cato Manor on Saturday during a coordinated, multidisciplinary operation.
According to police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda, the men are allegedly linked to more than 20 murders and multiple attempted murder cases dating back to June 2024.
"Police followed up on positive intelligence and located the suspects hiding in a house in Cato Manor," said Netshiunda. "Upon searching the premises, officers recovered two firearms, ammunition, and suspected stolen goods, including laptops and cellphones."
The group is accused of terrorising residents in Amaoti, a township north of Durban, for nearly a year. Their reign of terror is believed to include violent crimes that left the community gripped by fear.
Investigations remain ongoing, and authorities say the search continues for additional suspects who may be linked to the same gang.
The four arrested individuals are expected to appear before the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court later this week.
Police have praised the operation as a significant breakthrough in restoring safety and order to the area.
