Motorists navigating Durban’s central business district are advised to plan alternative routes, as the centre lane of the eastbound carriageway of Margaret Mncadi Avenue—between Joe Slovo Street and Dorothy Nyembe Street—will be closed to traffic from 22 April to 31 May 2025.
According to a notice issued by the City’s Water and Sanitation Unit, the closure is to facilitate urgent 24-hour maintenance work on the main sewer line, which will continue throughout the period.
In addition to the lane closure, kerbside parking will be prohibited along this stretch. Any vehicles parked in violation of this directive will be physically removed by authorities.
Motorists are urged to avoid the affected area entirely if possible, as the ongoing works are expected to cause significant traffic disruptions.
