Police have launched an inquest into a shooting incident involving a 39-year-old motorist and suspected hijackers in the south of Durban on Monday.
Reports indicate that the motorist shot and killed one of the suspects while injuring another during an attempted hijacking on Edwin Swales Drive. The incident has raised concerns about the increasing levels of crime, with citizens expressing a growing sense of insecurity.
Ward 32 Councillor Protas Mngonyama highlighted the need for heightened police visibility, stating, “To curb crime, we need more police presence on the ground. People are carrying guns here in Durban like it’s nothing. We need the police to stay involved as they are right now.”
The shooting underscores rising fears among residents as crime continues to pose a significant threat to safety in the area.
