A 21-year-old man has been arrested by the Hawks for allegedly selling leaked exam results online for R100. The Department of Education lodged a complaint on Sunday after reports of the leak surfaced just days before the official release.
Following an investigation, the Hawks raided a house in Hillcrest, Johannesburg, on Thursday, where they seized multiple electronic devices and an unlicensed shotgun with live ammunition. The suspect has been detained for unlawful possession of a firearm, while further probes into the exam leak continue.
Meanwhile, in KwaZulu-Natal, police in Amanzimtoti have recovered a stolen delivery truck carrying stationery worth over R160,000. The vehicle was hijacked at Ezimbokodweni Primary School, where robbers stole A4 paper at gunpoint. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The KZN Education Department has highlighted ongoing security concerns affecting schools and resource distribution. In response, authorities have developed a new strategy to ensure stationery deliveries take place during school hours when institutions are operational.
