The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport will begin a province-wide inspection on Thursday to assess the damage caused by heavy rains that have affected parts of the province since the start of the year.

The department has received numerous reports from communities that are struggling to access essential services such as schools, hospitals, and socio-economic centres due to road damage and flooding.

Spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya announced that "Operation Siyahlola" would commence in Adams, south of Durban, to inspect the affected areas. He explained that prolonged rainfall has delayed the construction of new infrastructure and worsened the condition of roads already under repair. Additionally, the department is addressing the growing need for housing, as many homes have been destroyed by the severe weather.

Sibiya assured that the department, in collaboration with other government entities, is committed to supporting affected communities during this challenging period.
