The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is urging approximately 1.6 million South African drivers to renew their vehicle licence discs before the end of the year. This comes as over 600,000 vehicle licence discs are set to expire by the end of November, with another one million due to expire by the end of December.
The RTMC warns that increased policing and enforcement will take place over the festive season, and drivers are advised to ensure their vehicle licences are up to date to avoid fines or complications during their travels.
RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane said that reminders have already been sent to motorists, particularly those registered on the National Traffic Information System (NATIS). "We’ve sent two reminders to all eligible motorists, along with forms to make the online renewal process easier," Zwane explained. "While the renewal rate is generally high, people tend to delay this task during the festive season, prioritizing travel and hotel bookings. We encourage drivers to renew their licences now to avoid any inconvenience during the holidays."
As the festive season approaches, the RTMC stresses the importance of timely vehicle licence renewals to ensure a smooth and hassle-free holiday experience for all drivers.
