uMngeni-uThukela Water has rejected claims circulating on social media that several KwaZulu-Natal dams have been contaminated. The bulk water supplier addressed a series of voicenotes circulating online, which falsely allege that suspects were caught attempting to poison water in dams like Midmar and others supplying eThekwini.
Spokesperson Siyabonga Maphumulo dismissed the accusations as "false and fake news," emphasizing that the claims were intended to create unnecessary panic and confusion among the public.
“The water we supply to all our municipal customers remains safe for human consumption,” Maphumulo assured. “It is regularly tested in accordance with the highest drinking water quality standards.”
The statement comes in response to growing concerns from local communities following the spread of these unfounded rumors.
