Two suspects are set to appear in a Limpopo court on Thursday after being arrested for possession of illegal explosives valued at approximately R2 million. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the fight against the use of explosives in criminal activities.

According to police, the suspects were apprehended on Tuesday during a tactical stop-and-search operation carried out by the Vhembe Flying Squad along the N1 South, near Makhado. During the operation, officers discovered four bags containing Super Power 90 Gel Tubes in the suspects' vehicle. The Explosives Unit later confirmed that the seized items were commercial explosives.

Kamogelo Mogotsi, spokesperson for the police ministry, praised the operation, stating it underscores law enforcement’s commitment to protecting citizens.

“These successful operations demonstrate our unwavering commitment to safeguarding South Africans from criminal activities that threaten their lives and well-being,” said Mogotsi.

The arrest is part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal use and distribution of explosives, which are often linked to violent crimes such as ATM bombings and illegal mining. Investigations are continuing to determine the source and intended use of the explosives.
