Five accused drug lords are set to appear in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo this morning. The suspects—Frederick Botha, Simphiwe Khumalo, and three Mexican nationals, Ruben Vidal Rodriguez, Gutierrez Lopez Alejandro, and Gonzalez Jorge Partida—were arrested in July following a major drug bust at an illicit manufacturing lab on a farm owned by Botha.
The operation uncovered drugs valued at over R2 billion, marking one of the largest seizures in the region.
During their last court appearance, Botha and Khumalo were denied bail due to concerns they might flee. Their Mexican co-accused have yet to apply for bail, pending the court’s appointment of a Spanish interpreter.
The accused have remained in custody since their arrest in July.
