The City of Cape Town has announced significant road closures and parking restrictions this weekend in preparation for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon.

The event kicks off with trail and peace runs on Saturday, while the main marathon, covering 42.2 kilometers, will take place on Sunday. The marathon route will take participants through various suburbs, starting in Newlands and concluding in Green Point.

Several areas, including the CBD, Green Point, District Six, Sea Point, Woodstock, Salt River, Observatory, Mowbray, Claremont, Rondebosch, and Newlands, will be affected by road closures. Additionally, certain roads along the marathon route have been designated as no-parking zones, with vehicles parked in these areas at risk of being towed.

This year’s marathon is also under evaluation as a potential candidate for the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors series, further raising the event's profile on the global marathon stage.

Residents and visitors are advised to plan ahead to avoid disruptions.
