Five Dead, Thirteen Injured in Eastern Cape Minibus Taxi Crash

Five people have died and thirteen others have been injured in a tragic crash at Mgwenyane location in Libode, Eastern Cape. The incident occurred when a minibus taxi, carrying passengers to KwaMajola village, overturned on a gravel road.

According to Provincial Transport Spokesperson Unathi Binqose, the fully-loaded vehicle was traveling from Mthatha when the driver lost control, leading to the overturn.

Binqose confirmed the fatalities, stating, “Yes, we can confirm the death of five individuals in this accident. The youngest was only two months old, and the eldest was an elderly woman in her 70s. It was a very unfortunate accident, occurring so close to their destination due to brake failure.”

The MEC for Transport, Xolile Nqatha, has expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and extended wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured.
