Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has expressed serious concern over the involvement of police officers in criminal activities. Speaking at a meeting of Parliament’s Police Portfolio Committee, where recent crime statistics were reviewed, Mchunu highlighted the troubling issue.
The latest statistics reveal that over 6,000 people were murdered from April to June this year. Mchunu acknowledged the concerns raised by Members of Parliament regarding police officers' involvement in crime.
“It is an extreme worry for us,” Mchunu said. He cited a case in KwaZulu-Natal where an officer, who had worked all night and finished his shift at 7 a.m., was found engaging in criminal activity by 10 a.m. Mchunu emphasized that addressing this issue is a critical priority for his department.
