Police have recovered stolen copper cables valued at approximately R20 million from a scrap metal yard in Queensburgh. Officials from the eThekwini Municipality have verified that the cables belong to the City.
KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda reported that the operation, carried out on Wednesday, followed intelligence gathered on Tuesday about illegal activities at the scrapyard. The operation, led by Public Order Policing and supported by the Hawks, resulted in the discovery of a substantial quantity of copper.
A 59-year-old man, who claimed to be the scrapyard manager, was arrested during the operation. He will be processed and subsequently brought before the court.
