Police have arrested two suspects following a fatal shooting in northern KwaZulu-Natal that claimed the lives of a 62-year-old man and his daughter. The tragic incident occurred on Monday in the Mangethe area of Mandeni.
Authorities confirmed that the man's 57-year-old wife was also injured in the attack and was rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda provided details on the swift police action that led to the arrests. “Investigations quickly revealed the identities of the suspects, who were allegedly targeting the deceased’s son, accusing him of having an affair with one of the suspects’ girlfriends,” said Netshiunda.
Following the discovery, police launched an operation, apprehending the suspects just after midnight on Tuesday at a residence in the Majuba area of Mandeni. The suspects were found in possession of two firearms—one of which was homemade, and the other had its serial number filed off.
Netshiunda also revealed that the suspects are wanted in connection with another crime. “Before the shooting, the suspects reportedly kidnapped a man in the eMakhwanini area of Mangethe, tied him to a tree in nearby bushes, and gagged him. They allegedly told the victim that they were going to kill people at a particular homestead before returning to kill him. The victim managed to escape and reported the incident to the police.”
The arrested individuals are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
