A Brazilian national is scheduled to appear at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court following his arrest for possessing cocaine valued at one million rand. The suspect was apprehended after local authorities acted on intelligence about a plane arriving from Sao Paulo carrying illegal drugs.
According to National Police spokesperson Athlende Mathe, police identified and detained the suspect as soon as the aircraft landed. The cocaine was found wrapped in plastic, indicating it was likely strapped to the suspect's body.
National Commissioner of SAPS General Fannie Masemola praised the arrest and issued a stern warning to those involved in transnational organized crime. "South Africa is not a playground for drug trafficking syndicates," Masemola said.
