A driver in KZN was killed when his car crashed into roadworks, causing it to lift into the air. Garrith Jamieson from ALS Paramedics reported that they arrived at the scene to find a single vehicle colliding with concrete barriers, resulting in it lifting into the air and coming to rest on its nose against a roadworks structure.
"Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that one person, a male believed to be approximately 30 years old, had sustained major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene," Jamieson said. "Two other occupants sustained serious injuries and were stabilized before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care."
The events leading up to the crash are not known.
In another incident on Monday morning, a six-car pile-up on Dr. Chota Motala Road in Pietermaritzburg left at least 10 people injured. KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service reported that when emergency services arrived at the scene, they found six vehicles involved in a collision.
"Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found 10 patients had sustained injuries, ranging from minor to serious," said spokesperson Chantelle Botha. "The patients were treated on the scene before being transported to the hospital for further treatment."
