The title King of Bollywood has long been synonymous with Shah Rukh Khan. For over three decades, his dominance at the box office, global appeal and cultural influence have set a benchmark that few have come close to matching. While many superstars have attempted to challenge his reign, most have fallen short. However, in recent years, Ranveer Singh has emerged as a formidable contender, prompting an intriguing debate: is a new king rising?

Historically, Khan has outperformed nearly every major actor in direct box office clashes. Yet, one notable exception stands out.

In 2015, the high-profile clash between Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani surprised the industry. Despite Dilwale featuring Khan alongside Kajol and being directed by Rohit Shetty, it underperformed at the box office. Meanwhile, Bajirao Mastani, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring Singh, emerged as the stronger performer in the long run, signaling a shift in audience preferences.

A similar scenario unfolded in 2018 when Khan’s Zero released around the same time as Singh’s Simmba. While Zero struggled both critically and commercially, Simmba became a massive blockbuster. These instances marked two significant occasions where Singh outperformed Khan at the box office, raising questions about a possible generational transition.

However, any speculation about the end of Khan’s reign was challenged in 2023. The superstar delivered one of the most remarkable comebacks in Bollywood history with Pathaan and Jawan –both achieving all-time blockbuster status. Within a single year, Khan accomplished a feat rarely seen in the industry, reaffirming his unmatched star power.

He concluded the year with Dunki, which, while not on the same scale, still performed successfully. In contrast, Singh also enjoyed success with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, directed by Karan Johar. The film was well-received and commercially viable, though it did not reach the historic heights achieved by Khan’s releases.

More recently, Singh has delivered major box office successes with Dhurandhar and its sequel, further cementing his position as one of Bollywood’s most bankable modern stars, with Dhurandhar: The Revenge poised to become one of the industry’s biggest blockbusters and with Khan's King releasing in December this year, will King break the box office records that have set by Dhurandhar.

Beyond box office numbers, the comparison also extends to legacy and influence. Khan’s global recognition, loyal fanbase, and ability to reinvent himself across generations give him a distinct edge. Singh, on the other hand, represents the new-age Bollywood star – energetic, versatile and in tune with evolving audience tastes.

Khan has built a legacy that defines Bollywood itself, while Singh is steadily building a case as the industry’s future torchbearer. If consistency remains on his side, Ranveer could very well step into the role once dominated by Khan. But the question remains – does current momentum outweigh decades of dominance, or does legacy still hold the crown? Who do you believe truly reigns supreme – Khan or Singh?

Devotees observe this day with great devotion by taking ritual baths in sacred rivers, offering prayers, lighting diyas, and performing aarti in honour of Goddess Ganga. Temples and riverbanks, especially in places like Varanasi and Haridwar, come alive with spiritual energy as thousands gather to seek blessings.

Ganga Saptami carries a powerful message about purity — not only of the body, but of the mind and soul. It reminds devotees to let go of negativity, embrace humility, and reconnect with nature and the divine. In today’s world, it also serves as a gentle call to protect and preserve our rivers, recognising them as lifelines that sustain both spiritual and physical existence.

For many, this sacred day is also about gratitude — for water, for life, and for the timeless traditions that connect generations through faith and devotion.

South African Referees Make FIFA World Cup Cut

For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, South Africa is set to make a mark on the global refereeing stage, with Abongile Tom and Zakhele Siwela, selected to officiate at the prestigious tournament.

According to INSIDE FIFA, among FIFA’s top match officials features 52 referees, 88 assistant referees and 30 video match officials, originating from six confederations and Member Associations. Furthermore, the appointment of the referees was made based on FIFA’s long-standing "quality first" principle. The consideration was given to the alignment of the performances delivered by candidates at FIFA tournaments, international as well as domestic competitions in recent years.

Introducing the South African Match Officials

Abongile Tom, a 34-year-old referee born in Cape Town, is considered as one of the prominent football referees in the Premier Soccer League. He officiated at the 2023 and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), including a quarterfinal. 

Zakhele Siwela, an experienced assistant referee, will be making his third World Cup appearance. His seasoned presence will complement Tom’s leadership as he assists with the whistle.

Their selection is a testament to the growth and development of South African refereeing.

FIFA’s Selection Process and Evaluation

In accordance with FIFA’s Chief Refereeing Officer and chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, Pierluigi Collina, the selected match officials (around the world) are the very best in the world. They were part of a broader range of officials that were identified and monitored over the past three years. Their performances and in domestic and international matches were periodically evaluated.

Key details of the World Cup

Roadtrips reveals that FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to take place from 11 June 2026 to 19 July 2026, across the United States, Canada and Mexico, with 48 teams and 104 matches over 39 days.
